Cyberbullying on Social Media Platforms

In 2017, the tragic case of 14-year-old Megan Evans from South Wales brought attention to the devastating impact of cyberbullying. She took her own life after being bullied on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. Megan’s mother shared her story to raise awareness of the dangers of online bullying and the need for stricter monitoring on social media platforms.

Online Grooming and Exploitation

In 2019, a 24-year-old man was convicted in Manchester for grooming over 200 children online by pretending to be a teenager. He used social media, gaming chat rooms, and even educational forums to target young children, asking them to share personal photos and engage in risky behavior. Police discovered his actions when one child reported the suspicious activity to their parents.

Addiction and Screen Time Issues

The popular game Fortnite has seen cases where children in the UK have become excessively addicted. A 9-year-old girl reportedly required psychological treatment in 2018 after becoming so addicted to Fortnite that she would skip meals, refuse to go to the bathroom, and stay up all night playing. She spent hundreds of pounds on in-game purchases without her parents’ knowledge.
